Job description

We are currently on the lookout for a highly qualified and experienced Managing Director based in the United Kingdom to lead the operations of Spendesk Financial Services Ltd. As a key entity of the Spendesk group, Spendesk Financial Services Ltd is responsible for providing top-notch payment services to the company’s UK-based client base. The successful candidate will be expected to bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s operations in the UK, including but not limited to managing a team of experts, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and requirements, and driving growth and profitability. Additionally, the MD will be expected to work closely with other senior executives and stakeholders to develop and implement effective strategies for the continued success of Spendesk Financial Services Ltd in the UK market.

The role will be based in our London office located on Commercial St, London E1 6LP, United Kingdom.

Financial products and services are an integral part of Spendesk’s vision and offerings in the UK market. Therefore, we are seeking an experienced candidate to lead our UK banking organization through its next phase of growth and expansion. The candidate will also ensure operational security, resilience, and efficiency.

We are seeking a highly experienced individual to manage and improve our internal systems. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient delivery of payment products to our customers in the UK.

Key responsibilities: * Driving Spendesk Financial Services (SFS) Ltd’s business:

  • Ensuring that the company is aligned with Spendesk Group’s strategic goals and objectives.
  • Leading the development of the firm’s short and long-term strategies while being accountable to the board.
  • Ensuring operational excellence of the payment institution.
  • Implementing and maintaining the firm’s operational procedures.
  • Overseeing the financial management of the company.
  • Managing relationships with all stakeholders involved in SFS Ltd, including:
  • Interacting with executive leaders from other entities of the Spendesk Group.
  • Supervising outsourced functions.
  • Managing the relationship with the FCA and ensuring appropriate reporting.
  • Managing escalations from UK customers with regard to the payment service.
  • Managing SFS Ltd’s Staff and Governance:
  • Vetting and appointing individuals within the UK operation.
  • Managing SFS Ltd’s MLRO and Banking Ops Teams:
  • Setting individual and collective objectives, and measuring related performance.
  • Coaching team members and offering structured development paths based on regular feedback.
  • Planning and organizing the team’s activities.
  • Creating a great working culture and environment in accordance with Spendesk values.
  • Handling all corporate and governance matters concerning SFS Ltd’s operations.
  • Overseeing and supporting risk and compliance activities
  • Approving risk assessment (including AML, technology, operational) concerning SFS Ltd’s business.
  • Assisting the head of compliance/MLRO to perform regular gap analysis against the firm’s regulatory requirements.
  • Driving change/continuous improvements to ensure SFS Ltd complies with regulations (e.g. approve budget for Compliance officers, new systems etc).

Who we are looking for: * Experience and skills related to the payment sector :

  • A proven track record of managing payment operations for a UK based PSP, of which 3+ years in a senior management position.
  • Specific and in-depth knowledge of local payment systems and ecosystem.
  • An excellent understanding of the UK regulatory environment for Payment Institution, including setting-up effective systems and processes to mitigate risks to the firm and its customers.
  • Analytical skills:
  • Evaluating the success of the organisation in reaching its goals, making sure that each strategic goal is measurable.
  • Analyzing and acting upon data/Management Information (MI) to drive continuous improvements
  • Supporting the resolution of operational issues based on in-depth analyses of specific processes.
  • Management skills: Creating a culture of learning to help enhance and grow the skills and abilities of employees.
  • Interpersonal skills: Being able to form good relationships with other leaders in the company and get significant input from the organisation so that there is little pushback regarding strategic decisions and direction.
